Fall is in the air! The first week of football season and school starting makes it official. It was a successful week with Utah beating Michigan in the “Big House” and BYU beating Northern Iowa at Provo. The Bingham Miners are having a rough start; they lost to Alta High on Friday. Hopefully all three of our teams will win next week!

Marie is back to school, so her life is busy with socializing, school, and work! She attended the football game on Friday night and then went and did some stuff with her friends! Her classes are demanding this year, so she will really have to work hard at managing her time. She continues to enjoy working at Schmidt’s Produce, and we are enjoying the fresh fruits and vegetables!

Ron is enjoying his experience as the assistant principal at Heartland Elementary. This will be his last week, and then on Friday he will go to Elk Meadows and get ready for his class to come back on track. His classes at Utah started this week, so Ron is now faced with homework.

My week was busy checking out textbooks to students. Sally and I were exhausted by the end of each day; we were averaging over 1000 textbooks a day. Towards the end of the week we started timing classes to see which class would win the gold medal in the “textbook checkout relay” competition. It was lots of fun for the students and it was interesting to see how competitive the teachers were……

On Saturday I participated in my first triathlon. It was a lot of fun and I finished….. The swim went well, but I was passed by almost everyone during the bike section of the race….Marie’s Huffy just can’t keep up with the expensive bikes that were in the race. I was laughing because I was pedaling so fast and every bike just kept passing me! The officials, cops, and photographers along the race were there to motivate me on; I think that they had sympathy for me on Marie’s Huffy bike! The 5K race was great after the first half mile was over…during the first part of the race my legs felt like rubber! I was glad that I did the race, and happy that I finished!!!!
Savanna is back at BYU working at the MTC. Her classes will begin on Tuesday. She has 3 new roommates, so we are excited to meet them!

Enjoy you week!!!!

The Olympics and our summer are coming to a close! The USA has done an amazing job at the Olympics in China; we have loved watching the highlights and the competition on TV and on the internet each day…..Swimming, Volleyball, Basketball, and Gymnastics, etc. I am in awe at the talent and dedication shown by the USA athletes! We look forward to the closing ceremonies tonight, and then it will be back to school tomorrow. Savanna has another week before her classes will begin, but she is moving down to Provo on Tuesday and on Wednesday she will begin working at the MTC. We have enjoyed having her home these past few days!

It has been a busy week for each of us…..

Ron has been working on his administrative hours at Heartland Elementary this week. His days have been full of learning the ins and outs of administration. He has more insight into the teachers that he had worked with for a number of years now that he sees things from an administrative view. Thursday night he helped with back to school night. The school was over following with families that wanted to see their new school that had been rebuilt over the past year. Ron will be at Heartland for 2 more weeks before he returns to his own classroom. On Thursday he will begin his classes at the “U”. This fall he has a tough class, Educational Law…..It is a challenging class but everyone lists this class as one of the best and the most applicable!

Friday evening Ron and I were able to escape for a night at the Anniversary Inn. We were able to enjoy celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary!!!! Time sure does fly by fast! It is hard to comprehend that we have been married for 25 years, where does the time go? We feel so blessed to have a good marriage and great daughters. Ron was even commenting that we are blessed with a good dog! We hope that the next 25 years will be as good, if not better than the first 25 years!

My week was busy with getting everything ready for school on Monday. I had meetings and lists of things to do to help teachers. Things went well, but I wish that there was air conditioning in the library; it was hot the entire week! This first week of school will be non-stop because Sally and I will be checking out textbooks to the students. There are classes scheduled every 10 minutes, we are hoping that we can get all textbooks out within 5-6 days! The beginning of school is a fun time for everyone, the expectations are high and the students are exciting to see their friends! I am just hoping that the weather will cool down.

This coming Saturday I will be competing in a triathlon. My goal is just to finish the event. I have been cross-training this summer so hopefully I will be able to handle the 400 meter swim, the 12 mile bike race, and the 5K run. If only I could get Mike Phelps to do the swimming for me! I would also like to start with the run and end with the swim…. I’m sure that it will be a new adventure for me!

Savanna has enjoyed spending time with her friends this week. Her schedule has been busy with doing things with her friends, sorting through her clothes, and spending time with Marie. The girls really enjoyed being home alone on Friday night! They watched “Camp Rock” and sang along with the Jonas Brothers…They even put together their own music video!!! It was very entertaining; you will have to check with Savanna if you want to see the footage!

Marie started the week at half-strength, but she is back to 100% now! She worked everyday this week at Schmidt’s Produce! We are enjoying the benefits of fresh corn, watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, and raspberries! Now that school is starting she will only be working 3-4 days a week and on Saturday. Marie is excited for a new school year and the chance to be surrounded by her friends. Saturday night she went swimming with a group of friends to celebrate the last day of summer vacation! This year she will be a junior and facing some demanding classes!

Cleo continues to enjoy the opportunity of going on walks with anyone that takes her…. She is still shedding a lot, but hopefully the cooler weather that will come will cut down on the amount of dog hair in the vacuum.

We hope that everyone continues to do well! The AZ students have been in school for 3 weeks now so I’m sure that their lives are back on the “school schedule”. This weekend will be the first BYU football game, so that means that fall is almost here!

Enjoy your week….
