Sept. 14, 2008

What an emotional week it has been for us….

Ron is back to teaching his 4th grade class and attending his college course on educational law. He is busy with school and homework. He was able to join Greg, his brother, and attend the wedding of his cousin’s daughter on Saturday. He enjoyed spending time with Greg!

Savanna is busy with school and work. Marie and I enjoyed meeting her for dinner after the football game. Today she was called to be a Relief Society teacher in her ward. She will do a great job at that calling. She also learned that she will be placed in the 6th grade at Jordan Ridge Elementary beginning in October for the next part of her practicum. This is exciting for Savanna because this is the elementary school that she attended, so she will be able to be home and be close to her school!

Marie is juggling the events in her life! She enjoyed the 100th year celebration for her high school this past week. There was a special assembly, and then the “Centennial Football Game” on Friday. She went early and helped the Key Club paint face for the game. Bingham won the game against Jordan, a great way to “Christen” the new football field and scoreboard. (the scoreboard is amazing with video replays, etc.) Marie also volunteered on Wednesday with the South Jordan Youth Council to set up flags for September 11th. The highlight of Marie’s week was Saturday; she attended the BYU vs. UCLA football game with me. We were enjoying the opportunity for her to see Justin Sorenson play. He attended Marie’s high school last year and he now plays for BYU kicking the ball off for kickoffs! Yes, there were many opportunities to see Justin kick during the game….poor UCLA, it seemed that nothing went right for them the entire game. When we arrived home there was a CD and note for Marie. She went on a scavenger hunt and was asked to the homecoming dance by Brian Larsen. She is excited to go to this dance, now she just needs to figure out how to say yes, and then what to wear etc.

My week wasn’t as busy at school, but I was busy with a parent lacrosse meeting. We are trying to set up a parent committee and get a varsity coach placed. The politics of team sports can sometimes be frustrating, but I’m sure that everything will work out in the end. Marie will only be playing for 2 more years, and then someone else will have to step up and get involved.

I really enjoyed the football game and then walking across the campus to go to Savanna’s apartment. The timing was just right that we got to see some of the players ring the victory bell on the southwest corner of the Marriott Center. That is where we were able to see Cosmo! Savanna, Marie, and I enjoyed a casual dinner at Legends, a sports grill that is located right by the Richard’s Building on campus. BYU campus is always so well maintained, and I have such fun memories of attending school there! Thanks to Jim for letting Marie and I enjoy his football tickets, we really did enjoy the day. We were also grateful for the wonderful fall weather; I just wish that I had worn something cooler than jeans!

Sorry to hear that ASU lost….hopefully they will beat Georgia this coming week. That will be a huge game!!!!

GO BYU!!!!
